What is Accumulated Benefit Obligation

The ABO is an estimate of pension obligation computed using the deferred compensation amount on all years of service performed by employees covered by the plan, both vested and non-vested using current salaries. The ABO is calculated based on the assumption that the pension plan is to be terminated immediately; with no consideration of future salary increases.
